The GT86 has a 2+2 seating arrangement, and the seat belt for the front seats is routed over the seat shoulder and retained by a strap/snap. Some owners of the GT86 have observed that the edge of the seat belt may sit uncomfortably against their neck and cause chafing and rubbing. The simple solution is to install a pad around the seat belt for comfort. The issue with many available aftermarket pads is that they’re too short, and there’s no way to ‘fix’ their location so they don’t slide up or down.

Our GT86 Shoulder Pad addresses those issues. It is 15" long and is available in black with red stitching to match the interior of the GT86/FR-S/BRZ. It opens up and wraps around the seat belt webbing, and is secured by Velcro. The interior of the pad is smooth nylon and allows the seat belt to slide within.

The outside of the pad is made of Drilex fabric, a very durable, abrasion and pill-resistant fabric used to provide comfort in outdoor and military goods like backpack shoulder pads. It is breathable and comfortable next-to-skin. On the outside of the pad is 1” nylon webbing, bartacked at 1.5" intervals. The snap strap on the GT86 seat is routed through the webbing to retain the pad. The location of the pad relative to the seat is adjusted by choosing which loop to thread the strap through. The GT86 pad can be used with or without the strap (on the passenger side for example), or the whole pad can be retained by the strap without threading it through the webbing. The use of the GT86 Seat Belt Shoulder Pad also reduces wear and tear on the seat shoulder and strap where the seat belt normally rubs against. The smooth nylon lining also reduces wear on the seat belt webbing so it doesn’t pill.

The pad is lightly padded with closed cell foam for comfort, and can also help reduce the chance of abrasions from the seat belt digging into the skin during a collision. Note that the GT86 pad can also be installed and used on the waist portion of the seat belt. Even if the unpadded seat belt doesn’t bother you during daily driving, using both GT86 pads (over the shoulder and across the waist) can increase comfort during autocross, track or HPDE events when you’re subject to more lateral movement in the seat than normal.

The GT86 pad can be used on any standard seat belt - it is not limited to the GT86. The pads are interchangeable from left to right as they are identical.
